Over the years, we’ve tested and reviewed a number of different top trucking GPS. From Garmin GPS to Cobra GPS and many in between, we’ve been able to give better feedback as time passed. Our latest GPS review is the TomTom VIA 1505M 5-Inch Navigator with lifetime maps found on Amazon.
The advancements are centuries ahead of the older GPS versions. You’re getting a bigger screen, you can choose a bluetooth version, you get both traffic and map updates. This new version has added over a million miles of roads, much better. We weren’t very fawn of the older models. They were decent but really glad to see TomTom step up to the plate and deliver a quality GPS.
With the TomTom VIA 1505M 5″ GPS, you do get maps from the United States, Canada and Mexico. As mentioned in the TomTom VIA features below, this is a slimmer model. The user interface is much better, appears to be brighter than older models.
Advanced Lane Guidance
I hate using GPS that are late giving directions. You need a fair warning. With Advanced Lane Guidance technology, the TomTom VIA GPS shows you exactly which lane to take before you approach an exit, turn or difficult intersection—so you can stay on the right path. Great feature, try driving a truck through New Jersey and New York with a lack luster GPS, it’s a nightmare. With Advanced Lane Guidance, you won’t have this issue. Big thumbs up.
Map Out Your Truck Stops, Hotels & More
With the TomTom VIA 1505M GPS, you’ll be able to map out your points of interest easily. This is so useful. As a truck driver or professional driver, you need to know where truck stops are, hotels and dining is. You’ll always be able to access you mapped out points of interest easily.
Get Accurate Time Tables In Between Routes
One big issue that I’ve seen in a lot of GPS was the time tables in between routes, the estimated time to travel between location A and B. With the TomTom VIA, I estimated it to be quite accurate, within 4 minutes. This is closer than most GPS, even one or two of the top rated GPS on the market.
TomTom 1505M GPS Lighting
As I said earlier, this TomTom VIA appears to me much brighter. Nothing worse than a GPS you can’t see in the middle of the day. I had no issues with this GPS. The picture is crystal clear, the interface is very bright. So if you’ve had issues seeing your GPS in the past, perhaps you have visual problems, you should be able to see this GPS much better. As for night, the TomTom VIA 1505M GPS has Night Mode to help you see at night.
Some Of The Great Things
I’ve already discussed several great things about the TomTom VIA 1505M 5″ GPS. It has great features, thinner and light weight. It has a real friendly user interface, easy to use. Reroute is fast and so is the loading speed. And for what you get with the TomTom GPS, the price is great.
Some Of The Faults I Found
Make no mistake, the TomTom VIA 1505M GPS model is great, but there’s a few flaws I want to point out. Some of the speed limits to the roads were not accurate, so you have to be careful with that. Another issue I had was the battery life. It is said to last for 3 hours, but a full charge lasted us 2 hours 15 minutes. Of course, it depends on the use, but it’s certainly less than advertised.
You will also have to register your TomTom, I didn’t like it but it wasn’t too bad. All of the faults I can live with, but I wanted to be sure you knew about them before you purchased the TomTom VIA 1505M.
