New Fuel Efficient Tire Will Benefit All Drivers
A new fuel efficient tire for long-haul truck drivers was released by Goodyear yesterday and some are calling the new tire a game changer. According to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., this fuel efficient tire is the most fuel efficient tire in North America.
“In commercial long-haul applications, we know fuel efficiency and savings is critical,” Andrea Russell, brand manager, commercial tire marketing, said during an online news conference with members of the trucking media. “Goodyear has been listening to what fleets have been saying and they’ve been telling us ‘we need to save money on fuel and reduce our operating costs.’ What really makes today so exciting for us is that the Goodyear LHD G505D is the most fuel-efficient, long-haul drive tire in North America.
While making the announcement, Goodyear officials compared the capabilities of its new tire with those of competitors based on a Class 8 tractor-trailer driving 120,000 miles a year, getting 6.5 miles per gallon fuel usage, purchasing fuel at $4 a gallon and operating with greenhouse gas approved engines.
Fuel Efficient Tires Used In Goodyear Test
- Michelin X Line Energy D 275/80R22.5 LR G
- Bridgestone M710 Ecopia size 295/75R22.5 LR G
- Continental EcoPlus HD3 295/75R22.5 LR G
Goodyear said the Fuel Max LHD G505D improves truck fuel economy by, on average, 2 percent compared to the Michelin X Line Energy D; 1.3 percent compared to the Continental EcoPlus HD3; and .09 percent compared to the Bridgestone M710 Ecopia. Based on the testing, the rolling resistance of the new tire is 15 percent lower than the Michelin X Line Energy D, 7 percent lower than the Bridgestone M710 Ecopia, and 10 percent lower than the Continental EcoPlus HD3.
Fuel Efficient Tire Annual Savings
The Goodyear Fuel Max LHD G505D fuel efficient tire will save drivers a lot of money annually. Below, you’ll see the annual savings if you choose to switch from the tires below to the new Fuel Max LHD G505D tire.
- The Michelin X Line Energy D $1,444 a truck per year
- Continental EcoPlus HD3 $896 a truck per year
- Bridgestone M710 Ecopia $672 a truck per year
Goodyear Fuel Max LHD G505D Benefits
Goodyear announced several benefits that the Fuel Max LHD G505D brings to the table. The Fuel Max technology incorporates innovative fuel-efficient rubber compounds, tire construction and tread design that lower rolling resistance to help promote energy efficiency and enhance fuel economy. The highly siped center rib and lateral grooves help enhance all-season traction. The Tredlock technology features interlocking micro grooves and a wide tread to help stabilize the tread for long life and enhanced toughness.
“The reason we are making the claim of the most fuel efficient drive tire in North America is because the rolling resistance is industry leading among [competitor’s] drive tires,” said Brian Buchman, general manager, product marketing, Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems.
